The academic seminar on “Bie-modernism and the Construction of Literary Theory Discourse System” was held at Shanghai Normal University

From November 19th to 21st, 2021, the academic seminar on “Bie-modernism and the Construction of Literary Theory Discourse System” hosted by the School of Humanities of Shanghai Normal University and the Institute of Aesthetics and Aesthetic Education of Shanghai Normal University was held at Shanghai Normal University. More than 60 aestheticians, literary theorists, jurists, artists and computer experts from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, China Social Sciences Press, Fudan University, Central South University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Capital Normal University, Shanghai University , Shanghai Normal University, Zhejiang Normal University, Yangzhou University, Nanchang University and other universities, academic institutions, and social groups, gave speeches online and offline, and nearly 500 people attended the online conference.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Jianjiang, Director of the Institute of Aesthetics and Aesthetic Education of Shanghai Normal University and the founder of Bie-modernism.Prof. Zha Qinghua, Dean of the School of Humanities of Shanghai Normal University; Professor Lu Yang, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Aesthetics and Leader of the Literature and Art Subject of the Chinese Department of Fudan University; Professor Keaton Wayne, Director of the Center for Chinese Bie-Modern Studies (CCBMS), Southwestern State University, Georgia, USA; Ernst Ženko, director of the Center for Bie-Modernism Studies(CBMS) at the University of Primoska in Slovenia, an EU member state, delivered speeches successively to congratulate the successful convening of the conference.

Zha Qinghua said in his speech that Shanghai Normal University is the birthplace of the theory of Bie-modernism, and Professor Wang Jianjiang of our school is the founder of the theory of Bie-modernism. The theory of Bie-modernism is well-known at home and abroad. Universities in the United States and the European Union have independently established Bie-modern research institutions to study Wang Jianjiang’s theory of Bie-modernism, which fully demonstrates the academic value of this theory. Lu Yang said that he attended the Bie-modernism conference a few years ago, and now the theory of Bie-modernism has been greatly developed. Therefore, the research in the academic circle should also keep up with the pace of this theory. Keaton Wayne believes that Wang Jianjiang planted the seeds of Bie-modernism to germinate and grow around the world. The fundamental reason is that Bie-modernism is an incubator of ideas, which can inspire people to create new ideas. Ernst Ženko said that the Bie-modern theory originated in China, but its applicability and significance will not be limited to China, but it has a global dimension.

The conference is divided into six sessions. Experts and scholars from three generations of old, middle-aged and young people from different fields will discuss the value, significance and prospect of Bie-modernism as a Chinese original theory based on their latest research results. They study deeply the role of Bie-modernism in the process of constructing the discourse system of Chinese literature and art theory. The topics of the meeting mainly include the following three aspects:

1. A discussion of the theory of literature and art itself. Starting from the relationship between categories and theoretical systems, Wang Jianjiang summed up 26 categories of Bie-modernism philosophy, aesthetics, and literary theory, showing the actual progress of the construction of Chinese literary theory discourse system. From the perspective of globalization strategy, Rong Yueming expounded the significance and path of the further occupation of the international ideological market and cultural market by the theory of Bie-modernism. Yang Yongmao and Xiao Jianhua extended the unique way of thinking of Bie-modernism through his “Bie Zai” theory and “super-practice” theory. Professor Lu Yang and Wang Hongyue discussed the functional transformation and multi-dimensional interweaving of “theory” itself from the perspective of Western theory. Professor Zeng Jun discussed the internal mechanism and operation mechanism of network literature from the perspective of media technology.

2. Apply the theory of Bie-modernism to solve professional and practical problems.Professor Yu Jianxiang of Central South University applied the Time-spatialization theory and Hero-space theory of Bie-modernism to analyze the causes and growth paths of Internet heroes. Professor Zhang Gong from East China University of Political Science and Law used Bie-modern theories to discuss theoretical issues in the film industry. Meng Yan, an internationally renowned painter, introduced his experience in building a beautiful China by applying a way of Bie-modernism in rural good governance. Professor Chen Haiguang demonstrated the application of Bie-modernism to distinguish between true and false modernity in the identification of literary characters.

3. Conduct an interdisciplinary discussion of the theory of Life Equity in Bie-modernism theory. Law professors Liu Zuoxiang, Shi Wenlong and international lawyer Yu Guangrong, together with Professor Wang Jianjiang, focused on the issue of Biemodernism’s Life Equity and the source of human happiness and beauty from the perspective of law, showing the philosophical coverage characteristics of Biemodernism theory .
