“The Development and International Travelling of Chinese-Style Discourse in the West” ——The 9th International Academic Conference on Bie-modernism Preliminary Notification

This year is the 10th anniversary of the creation of the theory of Bie-modernism. Bie-modernist theory was born in Shanghai, and as a Chinese-style discourse, it has been on a ” Theory’s World Tour “, and is becoming more and more internationalized. Up to now, the International Conference on Bie-modernism has been held eight times. A number of Bie-modernism art touring exhibitions have been held both at home and abroad; the Bie-modernism research centers CCBMS/CBMS have been established by the universities in the United States and Slovenia in 2017 and 2019, respectively; the website of Bie-modernism has been set up in Italy; the special session on “Bie-modernism” has been set up in both the International Conference of the International Society for Chinese Philosophy (ISCP) and the Human and Computer Interaction International Conference (HCII). In 2023, “Bie-modern” was selected as one of the “Top Ten Original Academic Concepts” in Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences by Renmin University of China in cooperation with several authoritative academic evaluation organizations. “Bie-modern” is an important part of the construction of China’s original knowledge system as an identifying concept. It began with aesthetic research and the creative practice of Dunhuang art regeneration, but has transcended the limitations of specialized research, with coverage and coordinates, and has been widely researched and applied in multidisciplinary intersections, and has been named contemporary “Bie Xue”(别学). The path of its emergence, development and dissemination, as well as its experience, is not only exemplary for the construction of China’s autonomous knowledge system, but also of great significance for the development of international academic dialogues. Based on this, the Institute of Aesthetics and Aesthetic Education(IAAE) of Shanghai Normal University, together with the Center for Chinese Bie-modernism Studies (CCBMS) of USA and the Center for Bie-modernism Studies (CBMS) of Slovenia, will co-organize ” The Development and International Travelling of the Chinese-Style Discourse in the West —the Ninth International Academic Conference on Bie-modernism” on October 25-28, 2024, which will be held in Shanghai, China. At the same time, an international art exhibition of Bie-modernism will be held at Fennan Mengyan Art Center in Taozhuang, Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, and a Bie-modernist poetry reading and seminar will be held in Xinxiang, Henan Province.

2. Methods of Participation
- In-person.
- Online. Detailed methods will be provided at the time.
- In order to encourage young scholars to participate in the conference, this conference has a special “Bie-modernist Theory Research Young Scholars Award”, which honors young scholars with the title of Associate Professor or below for their unpublished works (8,000-12,000 words). Among them, one First Prize will be awarded with 10,000 RMB, two Second Prizes will be awarded with 5,000 RMB each, three Third Prizes will be awarded with 3,000 RMB each, and twelve Excellence Prizes will be awarded with 500 RMB each. The list of winners will be decided by the preliminary committee and the final committee by voting and announced on “Bie-modern” WeChat public platform, and the winners will be awarded certificates at the conference, which will be recommended by the organizing committee to be published in domestic and international famous journals as appropriate.
- Experts, scholars and postgraduates who are interested in participating in the conference are invited to write papers on the conference topics and submit the papers to any email address of the conference contact person below before September 15, 2024, and the conference organizers will organize relevant experts to review the papers.Before October 1, 2024, the organizers will send out formal invitation letters to the delegates.

5. Notice
1. Interested scholars should fill in the Participation Form and submit the papers for the conference. The deadline for submitting the Participation Form is August 15, 2024, and the deadline for submitting the papers is September 15, 2024, respectively.
2. There is no participation fee for this conference. The conference organizer will provide meals during the conference, and participants will be responsible for their accommodation and transportation costs.
3. The call for entries for the Bie-modernist Art Exhibition and the Poetry Conference will be announced separately by the respective organizers.
